Vinod Bishnoi Discusses Challenges and Solutions for Karnataka's Wind Sector at Karnataka Wind Conference

Feb 05, 2025

Vinod Bishnoi, Head of Business Development at Suzlon Group, highlighted several key issues and potential solutions for Karnataka’s wind energy sector during his discussion at the Karnataka Wind Conference in Bangalore. One major topic was the leasing model in the state, which has significantly eased land acquisition issues, a longstanding challenge in the sector. However, he called for streamlining the Nodal Agency regulations and processes to make them more efficient.

Bishnoi also pointed out that the local Commercial & Industrial (C&I) market, once a promising segment, has nearly stagnated, urging for better solutions to procure power during peak hours. Additionally, he discussed the logistical difficulties in transporting large wind turbine blades, emphasizing the need for dedicated, sophisticated trailer deployments as a partial solution. On the equipment manufacturing front, Bishnoi shared Suzlon’s plans to establish another blade manufacturing facility in Karnataka.

The land acquisition process is already completed, and the Nodal Agency process is underway. He anticipates that by the next fiscal year, the company will be ready to produce larger blades. Furthermore, he highlighted the challenges of identifying pockets for 1.5 to 2 GW wind projects, which would allow the setup of manufacturing facilities closer to those sites.

Bishnoi concluded by noting that, as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Suzlon is planning 2-3 years ahead to address these challenges and accelerate the growth of Karnataka’s wind energy sector.
