UPERC Approves Supplementary Power Purchase Agreement Between UPPCL and Adani Green Energy
Mar 26, 2025
The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) has approved the supplementary power purchase agreement (SPPA) between Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) and Adani Green Energy Twenty-Three Limited (AGETTL). The agreement, dated July 18, 2024, pertains to the procurement of 50 MW of solar photovoltaic power from Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Background
The petition was filed by UPPCL following a ruling by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) on March 19, 2024. The NCLT had approved the amalgamation of Essel Urja Private Limited (EUPL) with AGETTL. The SPPA reflects a formal name change of the solar power producer from EUPL to AGETTL, without altering the tariff or other contractual terms.
No Objections Raised
AGETTL confirmed through an affidavit on February 2, 2025, that it had no objections to the approval of the SPPA. UPERC acknowledged that the petition was purely administrative, involving no impact on pricing or service conditions.
Commission’s Decision
Considering the circumstances and absence of objections, UPERC approved the SPPA, effectively formalizing the name change. This decision ensures continuity in the solar power supply arrangement, contributing to the state’s renewable energy goals.
The development is seen as a procedural step to align contractual documents with the corporate restructuring, reinforcing UPERC’s commitment to regulatory compliance and transparent governance.
