Unilever Secures 45 MW Solar PPA in Rajasthan to Power 32 Sites Across India

Mar 01, 2025

Unilever has taken a significant step towards net-zero emissions by signing a 45 MW solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Rajasthan with Brookfield. This agreement will supply renewable electricity to 32 sites across 15 states, including 10 collaborative manufacturers and Unilever’s own factories.

Key Highlights:
  • Long-term Sustainability Commitment: The 20-year PPA will provide a 25% cost savings compared to grid electricity.
  • Emissions Reduction: This initiative will help cut scope 2 emissions by 28,000 tonnes of CO?e annually.
  • Support for Manufacturing Partners: Smaller manufacturing partners, such as Alpla India, will benefit from fixed-price renewable energy, helping them meet their sustainability goals.
  • Government Incentives: The agreement aligns with India’s renewable energy policies, benefiting from waived central transmission charges for early adopters.

With India targeting 500 GW of renewable capacity by 2030, Unilever’s PPA sets a new benchmark for sustainability in the FMCG industry, demonstrating how corporate collaboration can accelerate the transition to clean energy.
