Torrent Green Energy Wins 300 MW in SECI Wind Auction, Boosts RE Pipeline to 3.3 GW
Jun 13, 2025
Torrent Green Energy, a subsidiary of Torrent Power, has secured 300 MW in the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) Tranche XVIII auction for 600 MW of ISTS-connected wind power projects. The winning tariff was Rs3.97/kWh. Despite SECI increasing the tendered capacity from 400 MW to 600 MW, only 300 MW was awarded as eligible bids were significantly lower, triggering a clause limiting awards to 80% of qualified capacity.
The awarded projects must be commissioned within 24 months, including the development of wind farms and associated transmission infrastructure up to the delivery point. The scope also includes operation and maintenance services for 25 years. The total investment is estimated at Rs2,650 crore.
If executed in Gujarat or Rajasthan, Torrent must comply with Supreme Court directives and MNRE guidelines to retrofit infrastructure in Great Indian Bustard habitats to prevent bird collisions.
This win expands Torrent Power’s renewable energy capacity under development to over 3.3 GW. Torrent Power is a major integrated utility with distribution networks across Gujarat, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.
In comparison, SECI’s 500 MW Tranche XVII wind auction in 2024 saw limited awards, with Powerica and Adyant Enersol (Datta Infra subsidiary) winning 50 MW each at Rs3.81 and Rs3.82/kWh, respectively, indicating a rising tariff trend in wind bids.
