Strengthening Karnataka’s Wind Sector: Grid Safety & Regulatory Compliance

Feb 09, 2025

At the Karnataka Wind Conference, Shri V. Balaji, Executive Director of SRLDC, Grid India, highlighted key considerations for wind developers to ensure smooth project commissioning. He stressed that "if the grid is not safe, you are not safe," emphasizing the importance of grid stability, compliance with connectivity standards, and robust inter-state and intra-state transmission systems to prevent renewable energy loss.

Discussing the commissioning process in Karnataka, he noted the upcoming surge in project approvals and underlined the need for efficient processes. His recommendations included phased hiring and upskilling of grid employees within the State Transmission Utility (STU) to enhance grid management. Shri Balaji also urged developers to ensure strict regulatory compliance and capacity augmentation, which would help in securing faster clearances for wind projects. His insights underscore the critical role of regulatory preparedness and infrastructure strengthening in making Karnataka a leader in wind energy.
