SEIA Slams U.S. House Proposal, Warns of Devastating Impact on Solar Industry
May 13, 2025
Abigail Ross Hopper, President and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA), issued a strong statement condemning proposed legislation by the U.S. House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce Committees. Hopper warned that the bill threatens to unravel the most successful industrial onshoring initiative in American history—particularly the rapidly growing domestic solar and storage industry.
The proposed changes, which include the repeal of clean energy tax credits for homeowners and modifications to critical funding mechanisms, could result in the closure of hundreds of factories, the loss of tens of thousands of jobs, and a spike in electricity bills. Hopper stressed that over 75% of the at-risk investments are in Republican-leaning states, making the legislation especially damaging to red-state economies.
Hopper emphasized that this bill undermines President Trump’s own “American energy dominance” agenda and compromises the nation’s energy and national security. She further criticized the legislation as an infringement on consumer choice, removing the freedom of homeowners to decide how they power their homes.
SEIA reiterated its willingness to collaborate with lawmakers but called for urgent changes, warning that the current proposals will stall progress and hand over energy leadership to global competitors like China.
