Sarla Aviation Unveils eVTOL ‘Shunya’ to Revolutionize Urban Transport

Bengaluru-based startup Sarla Aviation is set to transform urban mobility with its innovative electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Shunya. Founded by engineers Adrian Schmidt, Rakesh Gaonkar, and Shivam Chauhan, the company aims to tackle urban congestion and pollution with sustainable air travel solutions. Unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025, Shunya is designed to carry six passengers and a pilot, with a payload capacity of 680 kg.

The aircraft has an optimized range of 20-30 km per trip, with a maximum range of 160 km and speeds reaching up to 250 km/h. This advanced air mobility solution could significantly cut travel time in densely populated cities.

Sarla Aviation has raised $10 million in Series A funding, led by Accel India and notable investors like Nikhil Kamath, Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Binny Bansal, and others. With this financial backing, the startup is poised to accelerate development and bring sustainable urban aviation to reality.
