Santosh Kumar Sarangi Gets Additional Charge as CMD of SECI
May 13, 2025
The Union government appointed Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). He will hold this position until the appointment of a regular CMD or until further orders, according to a notification from the Department of Personnel and Training.
Sarangi is a senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1994 batch of the Odisha cadre. Prior to his current role in MNRE, he served as the Director General of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He brings with him vast administrative experience, having held key positions such as Principal Secretary in the Department of Science and Technology and CMD of Odisha Mining Corporation.
This appointment comes at a crucial time as SECI continues to play a pivotal role in India’s energy transition, managing large-scale renewable energy auctions and project development. Sarangi’s leadership is expected to bring strategic direction and continuity to SECI’s operations, further strengthening the institution’s efforts in driving India’s solar and renewable energy targets forward.
