Reliance Industries to Launch 20 GW Solar PV Manufacturing, Boosting India’s Renewable Ambitions

May 26, 2025

Reliance Industries Limited, led by Mukesh Ambani, is poised to launch its solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility in 2025, marking a significant milestone in India’s renewable energy landscape. As part of its ambitious Rs85,000 crore green energy pivot, Reliance is establishing giga factories in Jamnagar dedicated to producing solar modules, batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, and other clean energy components. The solar module plant is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 20 GW, potentially making Reliance the world’s second-largest solar PV producer.

This initiative aligns strongly with India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030 and dovetails with government incentives such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing. In 2024, India added 25.3 GW of solar capacity, yet it remains reliant on imports for solar components. Reliance’s entry into large-scale domestic manufacturing could reduce this dependency, accelerate clean energy deployment, and bolster India’s renewable self-reliance efforts.
