Apr 23, 2025
On April 22, 2025, Shri Tarun Kapoor, Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, received a warm welcome from NHPC officials upon his arrival in Itanagar. The visit marks a significant step in the government’s ongoing focus on accelerating hydroelectric development in the northeastern region. Shri Kapoor’s schedule includes an on-site assessment of the 2000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, one of India’s largest under-construction hydropower initiatives.
The visit also includes a comprehensive review of major hydroelectric projects in Arunachal Pradesh, such as the Upper Siang and Dibang Multipurpose Projects. These projects hold strategic importance for India’s energy security and regional development, offering a clean and sustainable power source while boosting local infrastructure and employment.
Shri Kapoor’s engagement highlights the Centre’s commitment to ensuring timely progress and addressing on-ground challenges related to hydroelectric expansion. His presence is expected to facilitate better coordination among stakeholders and strengthen momentum for hydropower-led renewable energy growth in the region.
These initiatives are aligned with India’s broader energy transition goals and emphasize the critical role of large-scale hydro projects in balancing the renewable energy mix.
