NTPC Green Energy Expands Footprint with New JV and Wind Project Commissioning
Apr 11, 2025
NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has taken major steps to accelerate India's renewable energy journey. On April 8, 2025, NGEL formed a joint venture, NTPC-MAHAPREIT GREEN ENERGY LIMITED, with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT). NGEL holds a 74% stake in the JV, which is focused on developing Renewable Energy Parks, including Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks (UMREPPs), across Maharashtra and other Indian states. The company aims to install up to 10 GW of solar, wind, hybrid, and storage-based energy projects. The venture has been approved by the Ministry of Power, DIPAM, and NITI Aayog.
Additionally, NGEL declared the commercial operation of 90 MW capacity from its 150 MW Dayapar Wind Energy Project Phase-I in Gujarat, effective April 9, 2025. Combined with the earlier commissioned 50 MW (November 2023), the project now has 140 MW operational, as part of a larger 450 MW hybrid project by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd.
NGEL also commissioned the 105 MW Shajapur Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh in November 2024. With a market cap of Rs80,000 crore and active partnerships like the one with Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company for 2,000 MW RE projects, NGEL continues to be a key driver of India's green energy ambitions.
