NTPC, India's power giant, has formed a 50:50 joint venture with Sri Lanka's Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Trincomalee Power Company Limited (TPCL) to develop a 50 MW solar project in Sampoor, Sri Lanka, expandable to 120 MW. The project's tariff has been set at 5.97 US cents per unit. This solar initiative is part of Sri Lanka's strategy to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, with a target to achieve 70% renewable energy by 2030. NTPC’s global push for renewable energy solutions aligns with its vision of becoming a leading power company.
