NTPC and EDF Partner for Hydropower and Pumped Storage Projects

NTPC and EDF India have signed a non-binding agreement to collaborate on developing, owning, operating, and maintaining pumped storage and hydropower projects. The partnership may also extend to electricity distribution, aligning with India's transition to clean and sustainable energy.

- Agreement signed by Mr. Federico D’Amico (EDF India CEO) and Shri J C Kakoti (GM-Hydro Engineering, NTPC)
- Attended by Shri Gurdeep Singh (CMD, NTPC) and Mr. Luc Rémont (Chairman & CEO, EDF France) at Elecrama 2025
- Joint Venture Company (JVC) with a 50:50 partnership, subject to government approvals
This collaboration leverages EDF’s global expertise in hydropower and storage while strengthening India’s energy security. With pumped storage playing a critical role in balancing intermittent renewable energy, this partnership aims to enhance grid stability, support decarbonization, and expand clean energy solutions for India and neighboring countries.
