NLC India Unveils Rs1.25 Lakh Crore Capex Plan by 2030, Focuses on Renewables

NLC India Ltd., a public sector enterprise, has announced an ambitious Rs1.25 lakh crore capital expenditure plan to expand its total generation capacity from 6.7 GW to 20 GW by 2030. According to CMD Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, the investment will primarily be directed towards renewable energy and green initiatives, with Rs65,000 crore allocated for clean energy and Rs15,000 crore specifically earmarked for battery storage systems. Thermal capacity will receive Rs45,000 crore, and mining projects Rs15,000 crore.

The company’s strategy reflects India’s growing energy demand and a broader push for energy transition. NLC is also planning to expand internationally by offering consulting services in countries such as Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, Africa, and the Middle East. Additionally, it is eyeing the acquisition of overseas battery mineral assets to support its renewable energy goals.

This announcement aligns with India’s broader energy diversification and decarbonization objectives, as the country prepares for increased power demand and a transition to a cleaner energy mix. The investment signals NLC's intent to become a major player in both domestic and international energy markets.
