NHPC Signs MoU to Build Net Zero District Library in Varanasi

NHPC and the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) have joined hands for a major Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at transforming the Government District Library at LT College Campus, Varanasi. On July 23, 2025, Shri Uttam Lal, Director (Personnel), NHPC, and Shri Pulkit Garg, IAS, Vice Chairman of VDA, exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to kick off the project titled “Transforming Varanasi District Library.”

Under this initiative, NHPC will support the demolition of the old library building and construction of a new Net Zero Library, aligning with sustainability goals. The new facility will be equipped with interactive digital tools, smart energy solutions, water conservation systems, and an environmentally responsible architectural design. The library aims not only to reduce power consumption but also to become a center for promoting conceptual and technical education among the youth.

Senior officials from NHPC and VDA, including the Head of Department (CSR & SD), NHPC, and the Additional Secretary of VDA, were present during the MoU signing ceremony. This project highlights NHPC’s long-term commitment to sustainable development and community welfare through impactful CSR efforts that blend modern infrastructure with eco-conscious practices.
