MNRE Approves Rs679.5 Million for Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters under Green Hydrogen Mission

Jul 29, 2025

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has sanctioned the release of Rs679.5 million as the first tranche of Central Financial Assistance (CFA) to support four Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs) under India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM). These clusters aim to create integrated hydrogen ecosystems across sectors such as industry, energy, and mobility, promoting the widespread adoption of green hydrogen.

The selected clusters include CSIR-NCL in Pune, IIT Bhubaneswar, ANERT in Kerala, and IIT Jodhpur. Together, these projects are valued at Rs4.85 billion, with Rs3.15 billion to be contributed by the respective institutions and industry partners. Each project will be executed via a dedicated company, with funding based on recommendations from MNRE’s Project Appraisal Committee.

This development follows MNRE’s issuance of detailed guidelines for hydrogen valley clusters and green hydrogen hubs, as well as the broader Rs4 billion R&D roadmap unveiled in July 2023. This roadmap focuses on advancing indigenous technology for green hydrogen production, storage, transport, and application.

Additionally, MNRE has launched a second call for R&D proposals to develop cost-effective green hydrogen solutions. These initiatives are central to India’s ambition to emerge as a global leader in green hydrogen, enhance energy security, and meet long-term decarbonization goals.
