Microsoft Expands Renewable Energy Portfolio with 475 MW Solar PPAs
Mar 22, 2025
Microsoft has signed three new solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) totaling 475 MW with The AES Corporation, covering projects in Michigan, Missouri, and Illinois. These projects, integrated into the MISO grid, are expected to become operational in early 2025, reinforcing Microsoft's leadership in corporate renewable energy procurement.
With this deal, Microsoft and AES have now collaborated on over 1 GW of PPAs across the U.S. and Latin America, spanning Brazil, Chile, Virginia, and California. As one of the largest corporate buyers of renewable energy, Microsoft has already added over 34 GW of clean energy capacity to the grid globally.
This agreement aligns with Microsoft's broader strategy, following recent PPAs with Energia in Ireland and EDP Renewables in Illinois and Texas. Meanwhile, AES continues to expand its partnerships, also supplying Amazon and Google as the race to power the digital world with clean energy intensifies.
