Maharashtra to Solarize All Agricultural Pumps by 2026

Feb 13, 2025

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. (MSEDCL) plans to transition all agricultural pumps to solar energy by 2026, easing the Rs13,500 crore cross-subsidy burden on industries and making tariffs more competitive. Under Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0, 16,000 MW of contracts have been awarded, inspired by Rajasthan’s success in solarizing 29,000+ pumps in a year.

With 100 GW solar capacity achieved, India is on track to becoming the third-largest solar market globally, accelerating towards its 500 GW renewable energy goal by 2030.
