Madhya Pradesh to Supply 170 MW of Solar Energy to Indian Railways
Jan 19, 2025
The Madhya Pradesh government continues its strong push to promote solar energy, marking a significant milestone by utilizing solar power generated within the state to meet the energy needs of Indian Railways.
During a meeting in New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw held detailed discussions about the railway’s energy requirements. Following the meeting, Minister Vaishnaw announced, “Indian Railways will receive 170 MW of solar energy from Madhya Pradesh.”
Responding on social media, CM Yadav expressed gratitude, emphasizing that this collaboration would be a major achievement for the state’s renewable energy ambitions. He noted that Madhya Pradesh’s consistent efforts to promote solar energy align perfectly with the nation’s green energy goals.
Madhya Pradesh has seen a remarkable 14-fold growth in renewable energy capacity over the past 12 years. From just 500 MW in 2012, the state now boasts approximately 7,000 MW of renewable capacity, contributing 21% of its total energy output. The government has set an ambitious target of increasing renewable capacity to 20,000 MW by 2030.
Flagship solar initiatives, including the globally recognized Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Park and the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project, showcase the state’s determination and leadership in renewable energy development.
This partnership between Madhya Pradesh and Indian Railways reinforces the commitment to a greener future and highlights the growing role of solar energy in transforming India’s power landscape.
