Kundan Green Energy Acquires 11.5 MW Jabalpur Waste-to-Energy Project in Madhya Pradesh

Apr 10, 2025

Kundan Green Energy, a part of the Kundan Group, has acquired an 11.5 MW waste-to-energy project in Jabalpur. Previously managed by Essel Group, the project was acquired through the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code with help from the State Bank of India. Kundan invested around Rs65 Cr and earnings of over Rs20 Cr.

The plant can handle 450 tons of municipal solid waste per day and will source this waste from Jabalpur Municipal Corporation. The electricity generated will be supplied directly to the state grid. This project not only provides clean energy but also helps reduce waste piling up in the city’s landfills.

The acquisition supports Kundan Green Energy's goal of reaching 300 MW of renewable energy capacity by 2027. The company already operates 17.5 MW of solar and 86 MW of hydro projects. This move reflects the growing interest in India’s waste-to-energy sector. Major players like Indian Oil Corporation and BPCL are also entering the space to produce compressed biogas from organic waste. Supporting this growth, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has allocated Rs600 Cr to fund 90 waste-to-energy projects from 2021 to 2026.
