JSW Energy Expands Energy Storage Portfolio with New 100 MW Solar + BESS PPA in Karnataka
Jul 24, 2025
JSW Renew Energy Forty Five Ltd., a step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy Ltd., has entered into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) for a 100 MW solar project integrated with a 100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The project will be connected to the 220/400 kV KPTCL Firozabad substation in Kalaburagi, Karnataka, and is priced at INR 4.31/kWh.
With this, JSW Energy’s total committed energy storage capacity now stands at 29.4 GWh, which includes 3 GWh of BESS and 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage. This is part of the company’s broader plan to reach 40 GWh of energy storage by 2030.
The agreement follows a series of recent energy storage deals:
- A 12-year BESPA with RVUNL for 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS at INR 2.24 lakh/MW/month.
- A 40-year contract with UPPCL for 1,500 MW/12,000 MWh pumped hydro energy storage in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh.
- A SECI-backed 125 MW/500 MWh BESS project in Kerala secured in February 2025, with viability gap funding support.
These developments reflect JSW Energy’s aggressive push into energy storage to support grid reliability and facilitate greater renewable energy integration.
