Jindal Stainless Commissions Odisha’s Largest Captive Industrial Solar Project
Apr 23, 2025
Jindal Stainless, in collaboration with AB ENERGIA, has launched a landmark solar energy project at its Jajpur facility in Odisha. This initiative marks the state’s largest captive industrial solar installation, with a total capacity of 30.34 MWp. The project features a 7.3 MWp floating solar plant on a water reservoir and a 23 MWp rooftop solar system spread across ten industrial roofs.
Together, these installations are expected to generate 44.3 million units of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 15,000 homes. In addition, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 32,208 metric tonnes per year, contributing significantly to the company's environmental sustainability targets.
This solar project is a strong example of India’s industrial sector embracing renewable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. It is also a critical move in Jindal Stainless’ broader sustainability roadmap, which includes a target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The combination of floating and rooftop solar technologies also demonstrates innovation in utilizing available space efficiently while boosting clean energy production.
This development underscores the rising trend of green manufacturing and the vital role of captive renewable energy in helping industries meet energy needs while minimizing environmental impact.
