International Energy Agency (IEA) Launches "Policy Toolbox for Industrial Decarbonisation" to Support Global Climate Goals
Apr 19, 2025
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a vital new report, "Policy Toolbox for Industrial Decarbonisation", offering a comprehensive guide to help governments craft effective strategies for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the industrial sector.
Recognizing the complexity of decarbonizing industry, the report provides a structured repository of policy instruments categorized under three broad focus areas.
These areas include Framework Fundamentals, with guidance on long-term GHG planning and mobilizing finance; Targeted Actions, addressing asset management, tech development, market creation for near-zero emissions materials, and strategies for material efficiency and circularity; and Enabling Conditions, which explore the roles of international cooperation, infrastructure planning, and data-driven progress tracking. Drawing from comparative policy analysis, the report highlights global best practices and real-world examples to inform policymakers. It also emphasizes the importance of international collaboration to level the playing field and scale up industrial decarbonisation efforts worldwide.
Authored by Antonella Pasetto, Tiffany Vass, and Isabel Geppert, the report serves as a timely and practical resource to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon industrial future.
