India Set to Reach 100 GW Wind Energy Target by 2030 with Industry Backing

May 05, 2025

India is on course to achieve its ambitious target of 100 GW of installed wind energy capacity by 2030, driven by strong industry commitment in manufacturing, innovation, and talent development, according to the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA). Currently, the country has over 50 GW of installed wind capacity as per the Central Electricity Authority’s March 2025 report.

In a recent meeting with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), IWTMA reaffirmed the sector’s readiness to scale up production, support the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, and create significant employment opportunities. The association emphasized that India's wind industry is fully aligned with the national clean energy goals, actively investing in advanced technologies, expanding manufacturing capacity, and developing a skilled workforce to meet the 2030 deadline.

Aditya Pyasi, CEO of IWTMA, highlighted that this growth is not only crucial for decarbonizing India’s power sector but also for enhancing energy security and driving economic development in wind-rich states.

This renewed focus on wind comes at a pivotal time when India is balancing between solar dominance and diversified renewable deployment. The sector's momentum reflects a maturing renewable energy ecosystem ready to support large-scale transition through policy alignment, industrial capability, and innovation.
