India’s Northeast Positioned as Green Energy Hub at Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025

May 24, 2025

At the Rising Northeast Investors Summit 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled a bold new vision positioning India’s Northeast as a central pillar in the country’s clean energy future. Emphasizing capability over just connectivity, the PM highlighted the region’s growing strategic role in hydropower, solar energy, semiconductor production, and clean manufacturing. He called for urgent investments in infrastructure and innovation to reduce future import dependency and build resilient domestic capacity.

Union Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Shri Pralhad Joshi, reinforced this narrative by calling the region “India’s Ashtalakshmi of green power.” He noted that the Northeast holds over 100 GW of hydropower and storage potential, coupled with strategic cross-border access to Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Myanmar. This positions the region as a vital green energy gateway to Southeast Asia.

With growing investor interest and supportive government policies, the summit showcased the Northeast’s emergence not just as a peripheral player, but as a frontrunner in India’s energy transition. The message was clear: the time to act is now, and leadership in India’s clean energy revolution will begin in the East.
