Haryana's Renewable Energy Capacity Reaches 2,391 MW, Government Expands Solar & Waste-to-Energy Projects

Haryana has made significant progress in renewable energy development, with a total installed capacity of 2,391.30 MW as of February 28, 2025. This includes 2,025.18 MW of solar power, 292.62 MW of bio-power, and 73.50 MW of hydro power, according to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE). This information was given by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) in a reply given to the Parliament.

New Renewable Energy Projects in Haryana (Last Three Years)
  • 9 Waste-to-Energy Projects with a combined capacity of 10.68 MWeq have been approved.
  • PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana received 1.63 lakh applications, benefiting 20,225 households since its launch in February 2024.
  • PM-KUSUM Scheme:
    • 93 MW of decentralized solar power (Component A) approved.
    • 1,60,655 solar pumps (Component B) sanctioned for farmers.
Financial Assistance for Renewable Energy in Haryana
  • Total Financial Assistance Provided: Rs 919.38 crore
  • Sonipat Parliamentary Constituency: Rs 130.60 crore
    • Rs 807.93 crore for standalone solar water pumping (PM-KUSUM), with Rs 126.75 crore allocated to Sonipat.
    • Rs 111.45 crore for rooftop solar, with Rs 3.85 crore provided to Sonipat.
  • Other Allocations:
    • Rs 5.05 crore for a Waste-to-Energy project in Rohtak (2021-22).
    • Rs 1.05 crore for a Biomass project in Kurukshetra (2021-22).
    • Rs 3.53 crore for Waste-to-Energy projects in Karnal (2022-23).
Government Initiatives for Decentralized Renewable Energy

To promote solar and bio-energy adoption in rural and urban areas, Haryana is benefiting from national schemes, including:

  • PM-KUSUM (Component B): Expansion of solar pumps for agriculture.
  • PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana: Rooftop solar installations for residential consumers.
  • National Bio Energy Programme: Support for bio-power and waste-to-energy projects.

Haryana's renewable energy expansion is gaining momentum, with strong government support for solar power, bio-energy, and waste-to-energy projects. The state's participation in national schemes is expected to further boost clean energy adoption and sustainability.
