Gujarat Allocates Rs 45.37 Crore for Solar Power Plants in 32 Municipalities

Jan 23, 2025

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has approved a budget of Rs 45.37 crore under the Swarnim Jayanti MukhyamantriShaheri Vikas Yojana to establish solar power plants across 60 sites in 32 municipalities. These installations, with a combined capacity of 6.7 MW, will enhance renewable energy adoption at key infrastructure locations such as sewage and water treatment plants, pumping stations, and municipal buildings. To date, INR 114.34 crore has been allocated for solar installations in 63 municipalities, with 55 municipalities completing projects at 97 sites.

This initiative aims to cut electricity costs and promote self-sufficiency in municipal energy consumption. It is estimated that municipalities could reduce electricity bills by 50% by adopting solar energy, reinforcing Gujarat’s leadership in renewable energy while benefiting local self-governance institutions.
