GRIDCO Invites EoI from High-Demand Consumers to Source Power from Renewables in Odisha
Apr 25, 2025
GRID Corporation of Odisha (GRIDCO) has issued an Expression of Interest (EoI) inviting consumers in Odisha with a contract demand of 500 kW or more to procure power from renewable energy sources. The move supports Odisha’s decarbonization strategy and aligns with Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) goals. The deadline for submissions is May 28, 2025.
Eligible applicants include consumers sourcing electricity via Odisha DISCOMs, open access, captive generation, or third-party arrangements. Based on the responses, GRIDCO will aggregate the renewable power demand and facilitate procurement through solar, wind, hybrid, and storage-based projects. This initiative is part of GRIDCO’s target to add 10.96 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.
Applicants procuring renewable energy through GRIDCO can benefit from cost advantages and policy incentives, including no cross-subsidy surcharge and electricity duty exemptions of Rs0.50/kWh for 15–20 years. Additional incentives include Rs0.20/kWh exemptions on transmission charges, and up to 50% off wheeling charges, especially when connecting across different DISCOMs.
This policy-driven push strengthens Odisha’s green energy outlook and offers significant financial incentives for large consumers to transition to clean energy. These benefits are part of the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022, aimed at catalyzing renewable adoption across the state.
