Goa Introduces Draft E-Waste Management Policy 2024 to Boost Recycling

Mar 15, 2025

Goa has taken a crucial step toward sustainable e-waste management with the introduction of the Draft E-Waste Management Policy 2024. The state generates an estimated 7,000 tonnes of e-waste annually, but only 570 tonnes are formally collected and processed. To address this gap, the policy focuses on several key areas, including strengthening Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), promoting formal recycling, and discouraging unsafe practices in the informal sector.

The policy also aims to establish a robust collection and transportation system to streamline e-waste disposal. Additionally, it emphasizes capacity building and research to develop sustainable waste management solutions. Public awareness campaigns will be launched to encourage responsible e-waste disposal among consumers and businesses.

Implementation and enforcement will be overseen by the Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC) and the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB). With a structured action plan and multi-stakeholder engagement, Goa is moving toward a circular economy in the electronics sector. This initiative is expected to improve e-waste handling efficiency and create a cleaner, greener future for the state.
