Global Wind Report 2025: Record Growth but Urgent Action Needed to Meet 2030 Targets

Apr 24, 2025

The Global Wind Energy Council's (GWEC) Global Wind Report 2025 reveals that 117 GW of wind energy was installed globally in 2024, setting a new record. However, this growth is still insufficient to meet the COP28 goal of tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030. The report emphasizes the need for governments, the industry, and civil society to collaborate and scale up wind energy deployment.

The report outlines several challenges, including macroeconomic pressures, fragmented trade, and supply chain issues. It also highlights the rise of disinformation campaigns that delay projects. To overcome these barriers, GWEC provides a roadmap that includes key recommendations for accelerating wind energy growth: creating demand certainty, de-risking investment, industrializing production for scale, enabling fair trade, modernizing infrastructure, and building social license through community engagement.

Key insights from the report include a surge in emerging markets like Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, strong policy momentum in several countries, and the need for grid and supply chain modernization. Disinformation remains a significant risk that must be addressed for continued progress in wind energy deployment.
