First Turbine Installed at Yeu-Noirmoutier Offshore Wind Farm in France
May 14, 2025
The Yeu-Noirmoutier offshore wind project has reached a significant milestone with the successful installation of its first wind turbine. Spearheaded by EMYN, a subsidiary of OW Ocean Winds, the project is set to supply clean energy to nearly 800,000 people by the end of 2025. Situated off the scenic west coast of France near Île d'Yeu and Île de Noirmoutier, the site benefits from consistently strong winds, making it an ideal location for offshore wind generation.
A total of 61 SG 8.0-167 wind turbines, each towering at 202 meters, are scheduled to be installed as part of this ambitious project. These high-capacity turbines are designed to harness the region’s robust wind resources effectively. The nacelles and blades are being manufactured locally at Siemens Gamesa’s facility in Le Havre, underlining the project’s contribution to domestic industrial activity and job creation.
This milestone not only represents engineering progress but also reinforces Europe’s commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity through offshore wind. Once operational, the Yeu-Noirmoutier project will significantly boost France’s clean energy portfolio, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and support the country’s broader climate and energy transition targets.
