First Offshore Wind Turbine Installed at Taiwan’s Hai Long 2A Wind Farm

Apr 24, 2025

In a major milestone for Taiwan’s renewable energy sector, the first offshore wind turbine at the Hai Long 2A wind farm has been successfully installed, just ahead of Earth Day. The project features Siemens Gamesa’s SG 14-222 turbine, which boasts a massive 222-meter rotor diameter and a total height of over 230 meters. With Power Boost technology, the turbine can generate up to 15 MW, making it one of the most powerful offshore wind turbines in Taiwan.

This achievement highlights not only technological advancements but also strong local and international collaboration. The nacelle for the turbine was assembled in Taiwan at Siemens Gamesa’s Taichung facility, which was expanded in January 2024 to support the Hai Long Project. This expansion strengthens Taiwan’s position as a key manufacturing hub for offshore wind energy in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Hai Long Project, developed in partnership with Siemens Gamesa and CDWE, plays a crucial role in Taiwan’s green energy transition. Moving forward, the project will continue to develop, further enhancing local engineering expertise and contributing to a more sustainable energy landscape. This milestone marks a significant step in Taiwan’s journey toward a cleaner, renewable-powered future.
