Egypt Partners with AMEA Power for 1,500 MWh Battery Storage Project
Feb 25, 2025
Egypt’s Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) has signed an agreement with UAE-based AMEA Power to develop a 1,500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) across two strategic locations:
- Banban Station – 500 MWh
- Zafarana Station – 1,000 MWh
Key Project Highlights:
- The project aims to enhance grid stability and support Egypt’s target of 65% renewable energy by 2040.
- New transformer stations will be built to integrate stored energy into the national grid, ensuring efficient power distribution during peak demand hours.
- This initiative aligns with Egypt’s National Energy Strategy, which aims for 42% renewable energy share by 2030 and 65% by 2040.
- The project is part of Egypt’s ongoing partnership with AMEA Power, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy.
This large-scale battery storage project will play a crucial role in reducing fossil fuel dependency, optimizing renewable energy utilization, and cutting carbon emissions, solidifying Egypt’s leadership in the region’s renewable energy transition.
