CERC Approves Tariffs for 1,530 MW of Renewable Energy Procured by NTPC

The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) has approved tariffs ranging from Rs 4.64/kWh to Rs 5.25/kWh for 1,530 MW of renewable energy procured by NTPC through a competitive bidding process. The Commission also sanctioned a trading margin of Rs 0.07/kWh, conditional on financial security provisions.
NTPC’s Competitive Bidding Process
- Total Procurement Target: 3,000 MW of grid-connected firm & dispatchable renewable energy
- Bidding Outcome:
- Qualified Bidders: 10 bidders offering 1,980 MW
- Contracts Awarded: 1,584 MW, with 1,530 MW finalized after ACME declined 54 MW
- Winning Bidders Include:
- ABC CleanTech
- Juniper Green Energy
- BN Dispatchable-1
- Hero Solar Energy
- ReNew Solar Power
- Serentica Renewables
- Tata Power Renewable Energy
The projects’ power purchase and sale agreements (PPA & PSA) will be signed for 25 years.
CERC’s Analysis & Conditions
- Transparency & Compliance: The Commission confirmed that NTPC followed a transparent, competitive bidding process as per government norms.
- Tariff Adoption: Approved despite pending PPAs & PSAs, conditional on their finalization.
- Trading Margin: Rs 0.07/kWh, but capped at Rs 0.02/kWh in the absence of proper financial security measures (e.g., escrow or irrevocable letter of credit).
