Bihar State Power Generation Company Invites Bids for 125 MW/500 MWh Battery Storage Project

Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) has issued a tender for a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model. The project will be supported by Viability Gap Funding (VGF) and will help Bihar enhance its grid stability and renewable energy integration.

- Tender Fees: Rs29,500
- Tender Processing Fee: Rs590
- Earnest Money Deposit (EMD): Rs750,000
- Performance Bank Guarantee: Rs0.185 crore/MW
- Minimum & Maximum Bid Capacity: 5 MW/20 MWh to 125 MW/500 MWh
- Viability Gap Funding: Rs0.27 crore/MWh or 30% of capital cost, whichever is lower
- Grid Connection Voltage: Minimum 33 kV
Project Structure & Requirements:
- Charging & Discharging: The BESS will be charged by drawing power from the grid and discharged based on instructions from the State Load Dispatch Center (SLDC) in coordination with DISCOMs.
- Technology Criteria: Only commercially established and operational BESS technologies will be considered to ensure minimal risk and timely commissioning.
- Financial Eligibility:
- Minimum annual turnover of Rs3 crore over the last three financial years
- Positive net worth
This initiative aligns with Bihar’s clean energy transition strategy, following its earlier 20 MW ground-mounted solar projects tender. The deployment of large-scale BESS will play a crucial role in improving grid flexibility, peak demand management, and renewable energy integration in the state.
