Bihar Regulator Approves 170 MW Wind Power Procurement from SJVN

Feb 12, 2025

The Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) has approved Bihar State Power Holding Company Ltd.'s (BSPHCL) procurement of 170 MW of wind power from SJVN Ltd. under a 25-year Power Sale Agreement (PSA). This move aims to help Bihar meet its Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) targets.

SJVN secured the power supply through Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding, offering 70 MW at Rs3.98/kWh and 100 MW at Rs3.99/kWh, plus a Rs0.07/kWh trading margin. The Commission noted that ISTS charges and losses will be waived for projects commissioned before June 30, 2025. The regulator found the procurement necessary due to a projected wind energy shortfall of 3,340 MUs by 2029-30 and determined the tariffs to be competitive. However, final tariff adoption depends on approval from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC).

This approval marks a significant step in Bihar’s renewable energy transition, ensuring a steady supply of wind power at cost-effective rates.
