BHEL Invites Bids for 1.2 GW Solar EPC Project at Khavda Solar Park

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has issued a tender for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of 1.2 GW of solar projects at Gujarat’s Khavda Solar Park. The last date for bid submission is March 20, 2025, and the bids will be opened on the same day. The selected contractors will be responsible for the design, engineering, construction, testing, commissioning, and three years of operations and maintenance. They must also set up the 33 kV evacuation system to connect the project to the grid.

Eligibility Criteria and Financial Requirements:

To qualify, bidders must have prior experience in designing, supplying, erecting, and commissioning grid-connected solar projects of at least 40 MW cumulative capacity, with one project being at least 10 MW and operational for at least six months. Financially, bidders must meet the following turnover requirements based on project size:

  • Rs100 crore for 300 MW
  • Rs200 crore for 600 MW
  • Rs300 crore for 900 MW
  • Rs400 crore for 1,200 MW

A Rs10 lakh earnest money deposit and a 10% security deposit of the contract value are also required.

This tender is part of BHEL’s increasing focus on renewable energy projects. In 2024, BHEL floated tenders for a 2.5 MW rooftop solar project at the Yadadri Thermal Power Project in Telangana and 1.6 MW solar projects at its Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant in Andhra Pradesh. The Khavda project is a significant step in India’s push towards large-scale solar energy adoption.
