Bangladesh Owes Adani Power Rs 7,500 Cr for Electricity from Jharkhand Plant
May 06, 2025
Bangladesh currently owes Adani Power approximately Rs7,500 crore for electricity supplied from the company’s 1.6 GW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Godda, Jharkhand. The entire power generated is exported to Bangladesh through a 130-km, 400 kV cross-border transmission line. According to Adani Power CFO Dilip Jha, the company has billed a total of Rs16,600 crore to date and received Rs10,018 crore, with Rs1,128.8 crore of the outstanding amount accounted as late payment surcharge (LPS).
Despite the large dues, Adani Power CEO SB Khyalia confirmed that the company continues to meet its power supply obligations without interruption. Notably, Bangladesh reduced its outstanding dues by around Rs500 crore in the March 2025 quarter, and current payments are reportedly exceeding monthly billing levels.
Adani Power is also aggressively expanding its power generation portfolio, planning a Rs13,307 crore capital expenditure this fiscal—up from Rs8,000 crore in FY25. Over the next six years, it aims to invest Rs1.2 lakh crore to increase its operating capacity from 17.55 GW to 30.67 GW by 2030. The company has already secured orders for 11.2 GW of ultra-supercritical equipment, marking one of the largest capacity expansions in the Indian private sector.
