Apple’s 2025 Earth Day Report Highlights Strong Emission Cuts and Circular Progress
Apr 23, 2025
On World Earth Day 2025, Apple released its Environmental Progress Report, showcasing major strides in reducing its environmental footprint. Since its 2015 baseline, Apple has cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by over 60?ross all scopes (1, 2, and 3), excluding offsets. The tech giant aims for a 75% reduction by 2030, with high-quality carbon credits covering any remaining emissions to reach carbon neutrality.
A key area of impact has been manufacturing emissions, which Apple has halved since 2020, dropping to 8.2 million tons in 2024—a 13?cline in just the past year. Central to this progress is Apple's Supplier Code of Conduct, mandating 100% renewable electricity use across its entire direct manufacturing supply chain by 2030. Currently, Apple sources 18.9 GW of renewable electricity, with 17.8 GW already online, marking a 15% increase from last year.
Beyond emissions, Apple is advancing in material circularity and waste management. In 2024, Apple achieved:
- 99% recycled rare earths in all magnets
- 100% recycled cobalt in all Apple-designed batteries
- 600,000 metric tons of waste diverted from landfills via its Zero Waste program
- A new MacBook Air featuring over 55% recycled content
- 42% fresh water reuse rate in its supply chain through the Supplier Clean Water Program
These milestones reflect Apple’s comprehensive approach to sustainability—integrating renewable energy, resource efficiency, circular economy principles, and supply chain accountability. As one of the world’s leading tech companies, Apple sets a high bar for corporate environmental responsibility and demonstrates how innovation can align with climate action and resource stewardship.
