Amazon Expands Clean Energy Portfolio with New Wind Projects Across India
Feb 07, 2025
Amazon has announced a major expansion of its clean energy footprint in India, with the launch of three new wind energy projects in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu. These initiatives contribute over 379 MW of renewable energy, which will be key in helping Amazon reach its target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, as part of its Climate Pledge commitment. The new wind farms include a 100 MW project in Koppal, Karnataka, developed in collaboration with CleanMax, a 99 MW facility in Solapur, Maharashtra, in partnership with BluPine, and a 180 MW wind farm in Dharapuram, Tamil Nadu, in partnership with JSW Energy. These projects are expected to generate enough energy to power over 1.3 million homes annually, making a significant contribution to India’s renewable energy landscape.
Avinash Shekhar, Head of APJC Energy and Water Strategy at AWS, emphasized Amazon’s commitment to accelerating the global transition to carbon-free energy. He noted that Amazon has been the largest corporate purchaser of solar and wind energy since 2020, with over 600 projects worldwide, including more than 50 in India.
Kuldeep Jain, Managing Director of CleanMax, expressed pride in collaborating with Amazon on these projects, noting their shared commitment to decarbonization and advancing the green energy landscape. The wind farm at Koppal is expected to offset approximately 252,000 tonnes of CO? annually, which is equivalent to planting nearly 14.8 million trees.
At BluPine Energy, CEO Neerav Nanavaty noted that the company is focused on delivering high-quality renewable energy solutions that support businesses in meeting their sustainability goals. BluPine’s project at Solapur will generate 360 million units (MUs) of renewable electricity annually and offsetting over 250,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
These collaborations mark significant steps toward Amazon’s broader clean energy goals and underscore the company’s commitment to supporting India’s renewable energy transition.
