Adani Energy Launches India's Largest District Cooling Project in Mundra

Aug 02, 2025

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd (AESL) has officially entered the cooling solutions business by constructing India's largest district cooling facility in Mundra, Gujarat, with a capacity of 45,000 tonnes of refrigeration (TR). The total refrigeration capacity under implementation by the company currently stands at 52,000 TR. Aimed at improving energy efficiency by at least 20%, the district cooling systems will replace traditional air conditioners and reduce related maintenance costs.

Adani has established a wholly-owned subsidiary, Adani Cooling Solutions Ltd, to deliver centralised cooling services. Besides the Mundra project, a 7,000 TR system is being built at Adani Shantigram Township in Ahmedabad, delivering chilled water to energy centre buildings through a customer cooling service agreement.

District cooling systems, though still in a nascent stage in India, are gaining traction, especially in mixed-use cluster developments. GIFT City in Gujarat houses the country’s first operational district cooling system, with a planned capacity of 180,000 TR. Adani is in discussions with developers in Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai to expand its footprint in this space.

Separately, AESL is also rapidly advancing its smart meter rollout, with 27,000 units being installed daily. The company has commissioned 51 lakh of its 55 lakh deployed meters and earned Rs115 crore from smart metering in Q1 FY26. It aims to cross 1 crore smart meter installations by the end of this financial year, while bids for another 12 crore smart meters remain pending.
