ACME Solar Signs Battery Storage Agreement with NHPC for 275 MW/550 MWh Projects

Jul 19, 2025

ACME Solar Holdings Limited has signed a significant Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with NHPC for two standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects totaling 275 MW/550 MWh capacity. The agreement was announced on 18 July 2025, following a successful e-reverse auction held on 24 June 2025. Under the deal, the projects will be remunerated at Rs2,10,000 per MW per month for a 50 MW/100 MWh system and Rs2,22,000 per MW per month for a 225 MW/450 MWh system.

Letters of Award (LOAs) were issued on 8 July 2025 for these projects, which fall under the Government of India's Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme. The VGF scheme supports energy storage deployment by offering financial assistance of Rs27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the total project cost, whichever is lower.

This agreement is a major step forward in India's push to enhance grid stability and integrate more renewable energy into the power mix. With energy storage systems becoming increasingly essential due to the variable nature of solar and wind energy, this partnership between ACME and NHPC highlights the growing momentum in India's energy storage sector.
