Union MNRE Minister and UP CM Review PM-KUSUM, PM Surya Ghar Schemes in Lucknow

Apr 11, 2025

In a significant development for Uttar Pradesh’s renewable energy sector, the Hon’ble Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, alongside Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath, chaired a high-level review meeting today in Lucknow. The session focused on the implementation and progress of the PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana schemes across the state.

The Union Minister emphasized the need for faster adoption and effective execution of both flagship schemes, which are critical to India’s broader clean energy transition goals. The PM-KUSUM scheme, aimed at solarizing agriculture pumps and promoting decentralised solar energy generation, has the potential to empower farmers and improve rural incomes. Meanwhile, the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana focuses on enabling free electricity through rooftop solar installations for households, further pushing the agenda of energy self-sufficiency and reduced power bills.

During the meeting, the Minister urged Uttar Pradesh to harness its full renewable energy potential, citing the state's abundant land, sunlight, and strong agricultural economy as major enablers. He encouraged expeditious project clearances, targeted awareness campaigns, and stronger coordination between the central and state agencies to overcome implementation hurdles and scale up adoption.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reiterated the state’s commitment to green energy initiatives, assuring full support in speeding up project rollouts and facilitating infrastructure and financing support to beneficiaries, especially small and marginal farmers and urban poor.

The review meeting reflects the Centre’s active push to monitor on-ground implementation, ensuring the schemes not only meet their targets but also drive inclusive development and sustainability. As one of the largest power-consuming states in India, Uttar Pradesh’s performance will be crucial to the national renewable energy growth trajectory.
