NTPC Enters Nuclear Sector with 2 GW Goal by 2032, Reinforcing Net-Zero Commitment
Apr 10, 2025
NTPC, India’s largest power utility, is making a major stride in the country’s clean energy journey by entering the nuclear power sector through partnerships with ASHVINI and NPUNL, with plans to develop 2 GW of nuclear capacity by 2032. This strategic move diversifies NTPC’s energy portfolio and aligns with India’s long-term sustainability goals.
NTPC is the first Indian energy company to announce Energy Compact goals at the United Nations High-Level Dialogue on Energy (UN HLDE), reinforcing its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. By embracing nuclear energy, which is both low-carbon and capable of providing stable baseload power, NTPC is helping India reduce dependence on fossil fuels while meeting growing energy demands.
This initiative is expected to reshape India’s energy mix, support economic growth, and enhance energy security. Nuclear power, being a reliable and emission-free source, will play a vital role in complementing intermittent renewables like solar and wind. NTPC’s foray into atomic power underscores its leadership in India’s energy transition and positions the company as a key player in delivering sustainable and secure energy solutions for the future.
